KBA to release 'Samagra Vachana'
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, JAN. 28. With the help of a special grant of Rs. 20 lakh from the
Department of Kannada and Culture, the Kannada Book Authority (KBA) is all
set to release its ambitious 15-volume compilation of "Samagra
Vachana" here
on Wednesday.
The KBA Chairman, Mallepuram Venkatesh, told presspersons on
Monday that the book was scheduled to be released by the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna.
The Chief Editor of the book, M.M. Kalburgi, the Minister of State for Kannada Culture,
Rani Satish, and the Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority,
Baragur Ramachandrappa, would participate in the function.
The KBA printed 5,000 copies of the compilation, and it had already received a
print order for 2,800 copies. Each 15-volume set would be sold at the cost price
of Rs. 850, he said. But for the financial assistance extended by the Department
of Kannada and Culture, the KBA would not have been able to implement its ambitious
project. The KBA had a number of important projects in mind, but the funds crunch was
preventing them from being implemented, he said.
Explaining the KBA's achievements in the past six months, Prof. Venkatesh said it had
successfully implemented some of its programmes such as book exhibitions, book festivals
and sales at the district and the taluk level all over the State except the Hyderabad
Karnataka region. It was worth noting that people had purchased Rs. 16 lakh worth of
books published by the KBA. Of the KBA's 183 published titles, 15, including the recently
released prose version of ``Pampa Bharata'', were sold out. The KBA was likely to reprint
"Pampa Bharata" as it was in demand. The authority was also planning to reprint the English
version of three of Kuvempu's plays translated by Prabhushankar, he said.
The KBA would organise a four-day book festival from February 21 to 25 in Gulbarga
city with the focus on youth, he added.
